DVC resales are in very high demand and hold their value better than any other vacation club ownership program. With 16 resorts decorated around the country, owners can take the magic with them to DVC destinations in Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, California, Vero Beach, and of course, Orlando.
DVC uses a flexible points-based system, allowing owners to travel to their home resort for priority booking access, or see all that DVC has to offer. The brand is also affiliated with Interval International, one of the largest vacation exchange platforms. Owners have access to a portfolio of over 4,500+ hotels and resorts around the world.
If you love Disney and love vacations, you’ll likely also love a DVC resale from the Disney Vacation Club. With 16 family-friendly resorts spread across the United States, owners can take the magic with them to Hawaii, Hilton Head Island, California, and Florida. Every DVC resort is complete with fantastical themes, luxurious swimming pools, and top-notch amenities that owners love.
Typically, owners break even on their entire DVC resale purchase within five to six trips. If you plan to take a vacation to a Disney resort every year, or even multiple times a year, then a DVC resale is definitely worth it. Plus, you can exchange your DVC points on Interval International, the affiliated vacation exchange network. When you’ve seen all that DVC has to offer, trade your points on Interval International for vacations virtually anywhere.
A leasehold property is similar to a “right to use” timeshare contract, with a few exceptions. Timeshare right to use means the contract or deed has an expiration date. You can normally purchase right-to-use timeshare contracts in Mexico, Aruba or other international countries, where an international buyer cannot hold land ownership in.
With a leasehold property, a developer leases a piece of land for a certain number of years. Disney Vacation Club leases from Disney Vacation Development Inc., where they build upon their leased land with resorts.
This is why each DVC resort contract has the same expiration date. Once your DVC contract expires, you will no longer own a piece of the resort or have the option to use your DVC points for vacations elsewhere. A DVC resale contract will still have the same expiration year as a contract directly purchased from Disney.
Owners receive an annual allotment of vacation “points,” which can be used as currency for travel. The number of points you receive depends on multiple factors. Your Home resort popularity, unit type and size, as well as season you own within all determine how many points you receive every year.
If you buy a DVC resale, you can browse our listings for sale to find the exact amount of points you’re looking for.
When you’re ready to purchase DVC resale points, you’ll want to pay special attention to choosing your home resort. Owning points at your home resort gives you priority access to making reservations before other DVC owners are able to. This advantage allows you to get first dibs on the best dates or times you want to vacation. DVC resale owners have certain restrictions to make reservations, which makes choosing your home resort all the more important.
We highly recommend Vacation Club Loans when you’re looking into financing a DVC resale purchase. Vacation Club Loans rates start as low as 9.9% and allow you to finance up to 80% of your purchase. There are no early payment penalties, and the approval process is quick and easy.
Being a Disney Vacation Club owner comes with many benefits that normal Disney renters don’t get. The good news about buying DVC resale is that you still have access to a lot of valuable DVC membership benefits offered with a retail sale. Some of the extras that transfer over when you buy a DVC resale are:
You can bank your points up to 8 months from your anniversary date to be used for the following year.
This gives you the ability to vacation around the world by exchanging with Interval International.
Go to other select Disney resort pools and experience the different themes of each location.
DVC members can use Mears Connect for a ride to and from Orlando International Airport. Each DVC resort has a dedicated pick-up location.
No need to worry about forgetting your room key, you’ll have it on your phone. The app acts as your hotel key, park tickets, Disney Genie+ entrances, and much more.

Disney Vacation Club’s Points system gives you flexibility and peace of mind. Disney publishes annual points charts for each resort promising that the only fluctuation from year to year will be around holidays that float (for instance Easter and Thanksgiving).
We have a complete guide to DVC points charts located on our website that includes updated points charts.
How many points you should purchase is totally up to you. The number of points you’ll need for each stay depends on when and how long you vacation, where you want to stay, and how many people you need to accommodate. These are factors you should definitely consider.
If you purchase Riviera points today, you will not be able to exchange them for any other resort in the brand. But, if you purchase Animal Kingdom points today, for example, you can exchange those points for any existing resort except the Riviera. This is one of the DVC resale restrictions to keep in mind when you buy at a home resort.
Banking is the term DVC uses for moving unused vacation points from the current use year to the next use year. Like “saving” them for a later date. Owners must bank their points within 8 months from the start of their use year. You must complete travel on reservations made with banked points by the end of the use year they were banked into or they will expire.
In the example below, two Vacation Points are moved from this Use Year to the next Use Year to lengthen the stay, upgrade accommodations, and much more!
Borrowing refers to bringing points from the next use year to apply toward a vacation in this use year.
Keep in mind that it’s better to have a few extra points on hand than to come up short. You can strategically bank, borrow or rent points to make up the difference.
Like every vacation club, there are certain restrictions for resale buyers that need to be weighed over. When you purchase directly from Disney Vacation Club, you have access to a world of perks and benefits. DVC direct owners are able to use points to make reservations at any one of Disney’s fifteen resorts and more. However, buying DVC resale points can save you thousands of dollars all while still enjoying your Home resort to its fullest potential.

Disney undoubtedly offers some of the best perks to its owners. That is something important to consider when deciding whether you want to buy direct or on the DVC resale market because not all benefits transfer. Deciding which benefits you can’t live without is a great way to decide if resale is for you. A few benefits that do transfer include magic bands, pool-hopping, use of the fireworks viewing lounge, Disney Skyliner, and Extra Magic Hours.
DVC contracts purchased on the resale market will not have access to membership extras like parties and DVC Member’s Only Lounges. It also means resale buyers will not receive discounts on annual passes, dining, and merchandise.
