Ah, Fall. That wonderful time of year when the kids are back to school, the summer crowds have disappeared, rates at most resorts have dipped, and the weather begins to cool down. September, October and early November are great months for travel and the perfect time to be outside and enjoy pleasant crisp air and the best that fall has to offer.  Why not plan a getaway to take advantage of great availability, reasonable accommodation rates, harvest-season events, and enjoy Mother Nature’s finest autumn color and foliage displays? So many places to choose from, but here are a few highlights of seasonal favorites.

In Orlando, Florida, take advantage of the shorter ride wait times at almost all the theme parks and attractions.  Also, Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival is held from late September thru November and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom will be happening again this year on select nights in the fall.  As this is the off-season, you will likely have your pick of fine dining locations at the theme parks, in downtown Orlando, and in upscale Winter Park.

If planning a visit to Savannah, Georgia, attend the Bacon Festival or the Shalom Y’all Jewish Food Festival. Stroll along the historic riverfront area, schedule a spooky ghost tour while you’re there or enjoy a meal at a haunted restaurant, Moon River to keep you in the Halloween spirit.

The Great Smoky Mountains of the Tennessee/ North Carolina state line will wow you will breathtaking views of nature’s finest display of colors throughout the month of October.  Stop by Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge for exciting live entertainment, casual dining and plenty of shopping minus the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds. For a room with a view and easy access to all Gatlinburg has to offer, consider the luxurious Tree Tops Resort.

September is National Bourbon Heritage Month in Louisville, Kentucky.  A 34-stop Urban Bourbon Trail is a fun seasonal highlight. In October, the city of Louisville hosts The Jack-O’-Lantern Spectacular in Iroquois Park. Be sure to sample all the incredible southern-style dishes and special bourbon pecan pie.

In Eastern Pennsylvania and the Pocono Mountains, enjoy relaxing and scenic drives along winding roads, cross over historic covered bridges, visit special historic sites and museums throughout the area, and sample local vintages at one of many regional wineries.

New York City’s Central Park is a great place to see the beauty of the leaves changing color from late September through mid-October.  Take in the sights and sounds along the busy streets of Manhattan, visit art museums, shop in a multitude of department stores and boutiques, enjoy fine dining and get tickets to a fantastic Broadway show.

Wherever you want to go, autumn is the perfect time to get away from it all before the winter holiday crowds and high prices start again.  Select your favorite destination and enjoy the beauty and fun of the fall season!
