Disney Vacation Club owners have the advantage of using a flexible, points-based system for booking vacations. Each resort has its own points chart that changes every year. The amount of DVC points owners need to make reservations depends on the resort, unit view, unit size, and length of time. Points charts change annually, so make sure you know what your points can be used towards when planning your trips every year.

DVC Points Q&A

Yes, DVC members can borrow up to 100% of the next year’s vacation points to use for the current year’s vacation. This gives members the flexibility to book longer trips, larger units, and smaller contracts for one-off vacations.

If DVC points aren’t used by the end of their Use Year, they expire. However, there are ways to extend the life of unused points, including banking them for next year, transferring them to Interval International, and borrowing points to add to leftover point amounts too small to use on their own.

DVC points expire at the end of their Use Year. For example, if you have a March Use Year, your 2024 points must be used (vacation taken, not just booked) by February 28, 2025. You can, however, bank your points for the next Use Year up to four months before the end of the current Use Year. These points can be saved until the next Use Year ends.

2023 saw price drops for every DVC resort except Grand Californian. However, 2023 was an anomaly; on average, DVC point prices tend to go up over time. That makes 2024 a great time to buy DVC points and lock in your savings.

DVC points bought on the resale market are subject to certain restrictions. For one, you can’t use resale points towards the minimum 150-point threshold required for membership. Furthermore, resale points aren’t eligible for discounts on shopping, dining, and park passes or certain Member Getaways Program collections. As of 2019, you also cannot use resale points to exchange for new DVC resorts. They can, however, be used to exchange for any of DVC’s 14 original resorts.

It depends on what you mean by “investment.” DVC points can certainly be a good investment in the quality of your vacations and your quality of life. However, a timeshare should never be thought of as a financial investment; the future is too uncertain. That said, unlike with less popular brands, DVC points have tended to appreciate in value, even on the resale market. So, while DVC points are not a safe financial investment, it is possible to sell them for more than what you paid.
